Become A Doctor Of Natural Health

Ingredients used in natural health medications.

Alternative medicine is growing in popularity. It uses the wisdom from Eastern and Western medicine for curing illnesses, preventing disease and staying healthy. A doctor of natural health uses natural therapies like massage, herbalism, diet and exercise.

Instructions

1. Select a school that is a member of the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges (AANMC). It should offer medical and health studies, alternative medicine, and naturopathic or natural health degrees. Research online or ask at your local library for resources to find the school that is right for you. A doctoral degree in education for holistic health and wellness, naturopathy and homeopathy are a few choices in the field of natural health. Some colleges offer dual medical degrees in areas of naturopathic studies and Oriental medicine.

2. Apply to a school. A bachelor's degree is needed to get into a full-time, 4-year college. Experience in the health field is beneficial to have when being considered, also several work references and other documents will be needed along with an application fee.

3. Train in areas of science and medicine that are similar to a traditional medical school curriculum. Hands-on clinical skills and holistic therapeutics are a large portion of the 4-year program. Internships in hospitals and clinics is a vital part of the education.

4. Graduate upon completion of your doctoral dissertation in natural health. There are several choices of areas to work in once you have earned your doctoral degree. Many offices offer integrative medicine where a patient can choose to be seen by a Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Naturopathic Doctor (N.D.).
