Law school can be prohibitively expensive, leaving students with extremely high student loan debt that they may be paying off for a long time. It isn't surprising, then, that many people opt for lower-cost law schools in order to save themselves money and get a law degree for less. Also, remember that in-state tuition for students is often a lot lower than that for out-of-state schools.
Under $10,000 per Year
As of 2011, Washburn University, Florida International University, Oklahoma City University, University of Dayton and Brigham Young University all charge under $10,000 per year for tuition. Keep in mind that Brigham Young University is a religious institution and has rigid rules for students to follow. In general, it's a good course of action to research your potential law schools before applying.
$10,000 to $20,000 per Year
Many state colleges offer low-cost tuition (and again, in-state students are often given an even cheaper price). A few of these are the University of Mississippi, University of Wyoming, University of North Dakota, University of Idaho and CUNY-Queens University. These schools will offer you a solid education for a decent price.
$20,000 to $30,000 per Year
Many more state schools fall within this range, including the University of New Mexico, Georgia State University and Arizona State University, which are all well regarded for educational value. In addition, George Mason, William and Mary and Marquette University all perform highly each year on Princeton Review's rankings.
Cost/Benefit Analysis
The Internet Legal Research Group has ranked law schools measured on how quickly students can expect to repay their loans and the quality of jobs after graduation against the cost of tuition. As of 2011, the best cost/benefit schools are the University of Georgia, Brigham Young University, University of Houston, University of Texas and Notre Dame.
