There are several financial aid options open to students of beauty schools.
Just because cosmetology school, or beauty school, is not a four-year college does not mean that the same financial aid opportunities do not exist. In addition to private loans and payment plans, there are both federal and private funding options that may supplement or cover the entire cost of beauty school.
Scholarships
There are various scholarships available for cosmetology education. The American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS) is a good place to start as it often have the most up-to-date and relevant scholarships listed. AACS generally awards scholarships to schools it certifies. Examples include the Farouk Systems USA/AACS Cosmetology Scholarship for $1,000, six of which are awarded to students attending AACS schools.

ACE Grant
An Access to Cosmetology Education (ACE) Grant is available to those with a high school diploma or GED certificate. The grant can only be used for schools certified by the American Association of Cosmetology Schools, and the school determines who is awarded a grant as well as the amount. The grant does not cover the full cost of tuition, but it does not have to be repaid. It is only available for new students, not for continuing education or to repay loans, however, if a student is pursuing another license in a new area (nail technician, instructor, etc...) he may apply. To apply, you need to complete an application, a salon assessment, and provide a copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate.
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell grants are available to undergraduate and vocational students studying at accredited schools. These grants, available through the U.S. Department of Education, do not need to be repaid. They do not cover the cost of registration, supplies and locker fees, but will cover tuition and books. In order to determine if you are eligible you must complete a free application for federal student aid form online. The grant is typically awarded based on financial need based on the student's individual income, their family's income, and the expected family contribution. In 2009, around 7 million grants were awarded with an average award of $3,611. The 2009 stimulus bill increased Pell grants by $17 billion and raised the maximum amount awarded from $4,731 to $5,350.
