Fine Art Schools

Art students from around the world attend fine art schools in the United States.


Aspiring artists attend fine art schools to obtain an education and a degree in their area of specialty. Fine art majors that lead to associate, bachelor and graduate degrees include art, music, dance and theater. Concentrations within fine art programs include ceramics, painting, photography and acting. There are schools offering fine art degrees throughout the United States, usually centralized in metropolitan areas.


Rhode Island School of Design


Rhode Island School of Design has on-site galleries and exhibits.


This fine art school is located in Providence, Rhode Island and was founded in 1877. With an enrollment of 2,200 students, Rhode Island School of Design is consistently ranked as the top fine arts school in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Sixteen undergraduate and 17 graduate degree programs are offered, as well as a six-week pre college program for high school students. Courses are offered in ceramics, painting, furniture design, textiles, photography and other areas within the fine arts.

Parsons The New School of Design


Parsons is located near Union Square in New York City.


Founded in 1896, Parsons The New School of Design is located in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Residents of this neighborhood and students add to the thriving arts of the city, and Parsons has produced many writers, artists and designers. Undergraduate, graduate and associate degrees are obtainable at the school, as well as coursework offered through continuing education and summer programs. Programs in music, sculpture, creative writing, painting and more encompass the fine arts curriculum of Parsons.

Yale University


Yale University students have access to an on-site digital lab, media center and art gallery.


This New Haven, Connecticut school has roots dating back to the 1640s, giving the school a rich heritage and history for producing politicians, philosophers, mathematicians and artists. The Yale School of Art offers coursework in sculpture, painting and drawing as well as seminars in composition and printmaking. Students have a wide array of options with studio electives, and customizing their coursework leading towards the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

California Institute of The Arts


California Institute of The Arts is 30 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.


Established in 1961 by Walt and Roy Disney, this school offers programs in art, dance, filmmaking and theater, which lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Located in Valencia, California, this school also offers a Master of Fine Arts and Doctor of Musical Arts. California Institute of The Arts was the first school in the country to offer undergraduate and graduate degrees in both visual and performing arts. In 2006, this school became the first American film school to be honored with a full retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art.
