Executive Doctoral Programs In Education

An executive doctoral program is a post-master's degree program that working professionals attain to enhance their standing in their respective fields. One of the most common fields for such a program is education, and there are a handful of colleges and universities across the United States that offer the opportunity to earn an executive doctorate in various specialties in that particular concentrate.


Argosy University


A for-profit educational institution with more than a dozen campuses across the United States, Argosy University offers a Doctor of Education in Community College Executive Leadership program through its College of Education. The program--offered entirely online--consists of 60 credits that can be completed in two years. This includes two three-day residencies held over the weekends: the first one focuses on study and writing, while the second one mainly involves the dissertation process.

Jackson State University


At this historically black university, the Jake Ayers Institute for Research offers an executive Ph.D. program in Urban Higher Education. It is for people to assume leadership roles at the senior level at post-secondary institutions and related organizations that cater to urban areas. JSU's executive doctoral program in education requires 88 credits for completion, 12 of which are earned from the dissertation process.

University of Pennsylvania


Through its Graduate School of Education, the University of Pennsylvania has two executive doctoral programs. The Executive Doctorate in Higher Education is designed for executives and senior managers in colleges and universities or related organizations. The Mid-Career Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership is a more advanced program, geared towards those at the highest levels of leadership in higher education. It usually takes up to two years for students to complete the Higher Education program. For the Educational Leadership program, it takes around three years.
