Be A Homeroom Mom

Volunteering as a homeroom mom can open up opportunities for you to be of service to your child's class, school, teacher and friends. It is also a great networking medium to reach out and get to know other parents. Here are some steps to help you get started making a difference by being a homeroom mom.

Instructions

1. Attend "Meet the Teacher Night" at the beginning of school. Teachers usually have sign-up sheets asking for volunteers. Sign up to be a homeroom mom. If you missed the meeting, be sure to see the teacher and let her know you want to be a homeroom mom.

2. Go to all the meetings that are held for homeroom moms and conducted by the school. You will be introduced to your duties and the resources available to you. You will also be notified of all the rules and procedures that you will need to observe for class parties and school events.

3. Send a note home with each student in the class to introduce yourself to their parents. Include your phone number, email address and express your excitement to be working with them, their children and the class teacher as the homeroom mom.

4. Work closely with the homeroom teacher; this way you both can understand the children's needs better as well as plan more effectively for each upcoming homeroom activity.

5. Keep a calendar of all the activities that will be held and things that you will need to get ready such as items for the class party, reminders, food, games and the number of extra volunteers needed.

6. Get ideas from other parents or homeroom moms.

7. Send notes home with each student before each class activity to inform their parents of the time and day of the party. At the same time, request for assistance with any items that need to be donated.

8. Arrive early for each activity to set up and get ready.

9. Thank parents who volunteered their time and contributed to the success of the activity after it's over.

10. Enjoy your assignment as a homeroom mom and make sure you make new friends as well.
