What Types Of Food Contain Lipids

Lipids is another term used for fats. There are two general types of lipids: complex lipids, including fats, oils, and waxes, and simple lipids, such as cholesterol. Fats are essential to life; they provide us with energy, help us retain heat, and are crucial for the production of hormones.


Trans-fats


Foods that contain trans-fats are margarine, hydrogenated oils and shortening; most store-bought or commercially baked goods are also high in trans-fats.








Saturated fats


Saturated fats are commonly found in meats such as sausage, beef, bacon, lamb, pork, chicken skin, hot dogs, cold cuts and lard, as well as dairy products such as chocolate, cream cheese, sour cream, ice cream, butter, cheese, whole milk yogurts and whole milk.


Monounsaturated fats


These fats are found in canola, olive and peanut oil, as well as olives, avocados, peanuts, almonds, pistachios, pecans, macadamia nuts and cashews.


Polyunsaturated fats


This particular sort of fat is found in many oils, commonly corn oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, soybean oil, sesame oil and cottonseed oil. It is also found in soy nuts, pine nuts and walnuts, as well as pumpkin and sunflower seeds.


Omega-3 fatty acids


Omega 3 fatty acids are commonly found in sea foods, such as salmon, trout, tuna, halibut, flounder, sole, herring and sardines as well as flax-seed oil, walnuts and soybeans.


Cholesterol


No plant-based foods contain cholesterol, however, all animal foods contain cholesterol, such as egg yolks and organ meats.
