Many children do their homework any old place around the house. Doing that can invite distractions, cause them to make mistakes, and result in lost projects and books. Help your child make homework a focused routine by setting up a proper place to do homework. Follow these steps to learn set one up.

1. Select an area that's away from any sources of distraction like the TV, a stereo or a cell phone.
2. Choose a place where it's easy for you to supervise between chores.
3. Make sure the area is away from any unwanted noise.
4. Make sure that the homework area is well-lit, ventilated and clean.
5. Put a table in that area that suits your child's height. If you plan to sit with your child to help them with the homework, make sure that the table is big enough to occupy two people as well as the necessary books and papers.
6. Make sure that the area has basic papers and material that your child might need, like pens, pencils, sharpeners, staplers, paper clips, maps, dictionary, thesaurus, glue, scissors or a calculator.
7. Organize all supplies well. This not only makes the space appear uncluttered, but it also emphasizes the importance of order and nurtures greater concentration.
8. Manage the space well. Make sure there are shelves for books so that the child has more space to move around. The place shouldn't look cluttered.
9. Utilize the walls of the area with charts or maps. This way, you can make the place look more vibrant and informative at the same time.
