Medical Scholarships For Undergraduates

There are a number of scholarships available to help undergraduate students in all branches of medical study pay for their schooling. These scholarships are as varied as the many branches in the field of medicine, and are available from a number of sources, including privately-owned companies and professional organizations.


AAMC Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarships


The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) offers scholarship money to undergraduate students pursuing medical degrees through the Herbert W. Nickens Medical Student Scholarship program. Five scholarships are awarded annually, each in the amount of $5,000. In order to be eligible, a student must be in his or her third year of medical school, and must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States. According to the AAMC website, an applicant must have "demonstrated leadership efforts in addressing educational, societal, and health care needs of minorities" in order to qualify for these awards. Tylenol Scholarship Program


The Tylenol Scholarship Program provides scholarship money to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in fields related to health and medicine. Approximately 40 scholarships are awarded every year, 10 in the amount of $10,000, and 30 in the amount of $5,000. According to the Tylenol website, the criteria for awarding these scholarships is based on the leadership qualities and experience of award applicants. The annual application deadline is May 14. Health Professions Education Foundation Allied Healthcare Scholarship


The Health Professions Education Foundation provides scholarship money to undergraduate students pursuing degrees related to health and health care through the Allied Healthcare Scholarship. These scholarships are awarded in amounts of up to $4,000 per academic year. Students must be attending an accredited institution in the state of California in order to be eligible. In return for receiving support, awardees of this scholarship must commit to either one year of employment or 100 hours of volunteer service in a medically underserved area of California.
