Return To School After Home Schooling

The decision to return to school after being home-schooled is an important decision. After making sure you are ready to return to school, there are certain steps that you must take in order to enroll. Each school district has different policies and procedures when returning to school. Private schools may have their own set of rules as well. However, returning to school is a relatively smooth process as long as the steps are followed accordingly.

Instructions

Returning to School after Home School

1. Contact the school that you are planning to attend, and request an enrollment package. Find out all the necessary documents, transcripts and items needed in order to attend the school. Fill out all enrollment papers. Gather proof of residency, if needed in order to attend school. Check with school as to what forms of proof of residency will be accepted.

2. Make sure your immunizations are up to date. Get any needed vaccinations taken care of, and keep a detailed record of your immunizations. Obtain an immunization waiver that correlates with your state's immunization exemption law if you have not been vaccinated and do not intend to be. Submit your immunization records or waiver to the school you wish to attend.

3. Schedule a time to visit the school and to do any testing necessary in order to enroll. Check with your local school or school district to determine what kind of testing, if any, is necessary. Some schools may require placement testing before attending, while others may not.

4. Register with the school and include necessary enrollment papers, proof of residence, transcripts, grades and work or projects that were completed while being home-schooled. Speak with an adviser or counselor if you need any help or advice with returning to school.
