Register To Vote In Mississippi

You can register in person or by mail to vote in Mississippi. The Mississippi Voter Registration application is available online, and there are a number of documents you can use to prove your residency and identity. Many people think it is difficult to register to vote, but it is a very simple process that takes less time to do than it took you to read this introduction.


Instructions


1. Check the Mississippi Voter Information Guide to be sure you are eligible to vote. You must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 by the time of the next general election. You cannot have been declared incompetent or found guilty of any of the listed offenses in the guide. You must have been a resident of the state, county, and supervisor's district for at least 30 days prior to the election in which you plan to vote.If you have any disqualifications, get in touch with your county circuit clerk of courts to find out clear your record and get your rights restored.


2. Complete the Mississippi Voter Registration application. You can get an application online in the resources below. You can also pick up an application at your local public library. You can register by mail or in person at your County Circuit Clerk of Courts office, Municipal Clerk's office, at any driver's license renewal office, or at a Social Security Administration office or the Mississippi Department of Human Services.


3. Provide your Mississippi driver's License number or your Social Security number. If you register to vote by mail, have never registered in your county before and do not have either of these, you will have to submit a copy of a current and valid photo ID, such as a passport or state ID card, or employer-provided photo ID, along with your voter application. If you do not have any of these, you will have to provide a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document with your name and address.


4. Be prepared to show your driver's license or other photo ID the first time you vote in Mississippi. Once you register to vote, you will remain registered until you move away, pass away, become incompetent, or commit one of the felony offenses listed in the Voter Registration Guide.


5. Exercise your right to vote in the next available election. Research the various parties to help you choose the one with which you wish to affiliate yourself.
