Foreign language teachers are in high demand. Spanish, French, Chinese and Japanese are among the most needed and requested foreign languages. However, before becoming a foreign language teacher, there are some requirements that must be met.

1. Choose a college that offers a good foreign language teacher preparation program. Make sure they have good teacher training classes and good foreign language classes.
2. Learn the foreign language that you want to teach. Learn the language grammar and vocabulary, the culture and everything you can about the particular language that you wish to teach.
3. Study and learn teaching techniques such as writing lesson plans, class discipline and management, working with parents and classroom organization. Read educational journals to learn about reforms and changes occurring in the education field.
4. Practice teaching. You can usually do this through student teaching, through tutoring and through helping children and students who need help with their foreign language homework.
5. Apply for foreign language teacher positions with several school districts. After several interviews, compare and contrast the opportunities and then choose which one would be best for you.
