Parsons chairs come in a variety of materials and wood combinations.
Setting up a parsons chair with a wood frame and leather upholstery is moderately easy. A chair with a roll back and straight simple legs was designed in the early 19th century. The original parsons chair design and name is attributable to The Parsons School of Design in Paris, France. A leather roll back with wooden legs is considered the original design; however, modern parsons chairs have legs of other styles, skirts and chair back in various materials and textures.
Instructions
1. Clear an 8 feet by 8 feet area. Use this area to assemble the chair. If the floor surface is hard, spread a thick comforter down to prevent the wood frame or leather upholstery from being damaged.
2. Remove all the parts of the chair from the box and the instruction manual. Read the list of parts in the instruction manual and note the part counts listed. Make sure you have all of the listed parts, especially screws, washers, heads and wrenchs. If any parts are missing call the number on the instruction manual for replacement parts.
3. Lay the backside of the chair back on the floor. Attach the seat to the parsons chair back with the screw washers and screws or bolts with a wrench or pliers.
4. Affix the crossbar (leg braces that sit directly under the chair seat) to the back of the chair and the chair set. These crossbars usually snap into place, not all parsons chairs include them. Models that hold a higher weight, like up to 1,000 pounds, tend to include them.
5. Attach the legs to the chair. Attach the back legs first. Some models have two back legs that affix over a piece attached to the chair back that screw on, with two front legs that screw on. While other models have four legs that are simply screw into the seat of the chair. All the screw holes are pre-drilled and the instruction manual has an image that details the correct placement and positioning.
