Grants & Scholarships For Women In Technology

Women who are pursuing a career in technology can apply for funding to complete their studies.


Organizations provide grants, scholarships, and fellowships for women pursuing full-time studies in technology-related fields such as computer science, engineering, and mathematics. Grants range from $1,000 to $18,000, and are designed to support the advancement of women in fields where they are traditionally under-represented. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for information technology and computer systems professionals is expected to increase by 17 percent by 2018.


American Association of University Women: Selected Professions Fellowships


The American Association of University Women Selected Professions Fellowships offer funding for women pursuing full-time graduate studies in architecture, computer science, engineering and mathematics. Fellowships for minority women pursuing studies in business administration, law and medicine are also available. Awards range from $5,000 to $18,000. Eligible applicants must have demonstrated high academic achievement, provide proof of enrollment in full-time studies in an accredited program at an United States academic institution. Applications are due by Jan. 10 of each calendar year.


The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship


The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship provides a $10,000 award for women pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees in technology. Eligible applicants must provide proof of enrollment in full-time studies in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field; and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 out of 4.0, or 4.5 out of 5.0. Applicants must submit their application online and provide their resume, essay response, academic transcripts, and references. Scholarship finalists are provided with a trip to Mountain View, California to attend the annual Google Scholars Retreat. Applications are due by Feb. 6, of each calendar year.


Microsoft Research: Graduate Women's Scholarship Program


The Microsoft Graduate Women's Scholarship Program is designed to support female graduate students pursuing Ph.D. studies in a technology-related field. The one-year $15,000 award includes $2,000 for conference travel. Eligible applicants must provide proof of enrollment in full-time studies at a U.S. academic institution in the program areas of electrical engineering, computer science, or mathematics; and have completed less than one-year of study. Applicants must receive nomination from their academic institution; individual applications from candidates are not accepted. Application packages must include a candidates curriculum vitae, academic transcripts, and letters of reference. Applications are due by Feb. 11 of each calendar year.


The Society of Women Engineers


The Society of Women Engineers provides scholarships of up to $10,000 for women pursuing full-time baccalaureate or graduate studies in the field of computer science, engineering, or engineering technology programs. Students must attend an accredited academic institution and provide proof of enrollment in full-time studies. Applications are due by Feb. 15 of each calendar year.
