What Courses Are Required For Practical Nursing

There are a number of courses you need to become a practical nurse


To engage in practical nursing, you must become an LPN, a licensed practical nurse. Licensed practical nurses also are called LVNs, licensed vocational nurses. LPNs are highly trained medical professionals, requiring a number of courses to complete.


Anatomy and Physiology


Anatomy and physiology are standard courses for practical nursing. More than one class in anatomy might be needed.


CPR


Almost all LPN programs requirestudents to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation.


Chemistry








Prospective practical nurses might need at least one course in chemisty.


Practical Nursing Skills








LPNs must complete many courses in nursing skills. Students also might need classes for specialized skills, such as pediatrics or obstetrics.


Oncology


Oncology, which studies and treats cancer, is a growing area of the health-care industry. Aspiring nurses might have to take a course in oncology.
