Scholarships For Working Parents

Spend more time with your kids with a scholarship to an online school.

Many working parents want to further their education and careers through additional schooling, but the cost of tuition and other expenses can be a problem. Luckily, there are many available scholarships created especially for working moms and dads that can help ease the financial burden. Unlike student loans, you'll never have to pay back these scholarships, and in some cases the funds can be used toward child care and transportation expenses as well.

Project Working Mom... and Dad, Too

The online education website eLearners.com sponsors a scholarship program called Project Working Mom, which awards full tuition scholarships to accredited online schools such as Virginia College and Everest University. Contrary to what the program's name may imply, dads are also eligible for Project Working Mom scholarships, and employment isn't technically required to qualify. Since Project Working Mom launched in January 2008, over $6 million in scholarships have been awarded, and the 2010 cycle will award up to 285 full scholarships to eight online institutions.

Interested parents must fill out an online application at ProjectWorkingMom.com and specify their school of interest and desired degree program. A short personal essay is also required. Applicants do not need SAT or GPA scores.

To be eligible for a Women's Opportunity Award, a woman must be currently enrolled in or accepted to an undergraduate degree program or a vocational or skills training program. Women's Opportunity Awards applicants must also demonstrate financial need in order to qualify. Go to soroptimist.org to fill out an online application.
