Scholarships For College Bound Highschool Seniors

You're in the senior year of high school, that transitional time of preparing to leave secondary education, move away from home and go on to college. However, a lot of your dreams may hinge on receiving scholarships to pay for further education. Start early in the 12th grade year and find and apply for scholarships and grants for high-school bound seniors.


Dell Scholars


Those high-school seniors coming from under-served backgrounds or communities may be eligible for the Dell Scholars program, which focuses on young people with financial need. Students must participate in the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation program for student readiness for a minimum of two years to qualify. Students must have a minimum 2.4 grade point average, and plan to attend college upon high school graduation. Criteria includes strong goals and plans for achievement, self-motivation and communications of hardships faced or overcome. Scholarship amounts vary depending on the school.


Fred Luster Sr. Education Foundation Scholarship


The Fred Luster Sr. Education Foundation Scholarship, named for the founder of Luster Products, an African-American hair products company, offers $250 for the 2011 to 2012 academic year to college-bound high-school seniors demonstrating financial need and academic merit. Only students planning to major in business, engineering or chemistry may apply. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and should submit two letters or recommendation along with income verification.


Coca-Cola Scholars Program


Your favorite soft drink may help pay for college. Each year, the Coca-Cola Scholars Program awards 250 four-year scholarships based on academic merit. As of 2011, 50 students receive $20,000 for college as National Scholars, and another 200 students called Regional Scholars receive $10,000. Applicants must be high school seniors, United States citizens or hold permanent resident status, and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA upon entrance into their senior year. Submissions take place between August 1 and October 31 of the applicant's senior year.


Best Buy @15 Scholarships


High school students residing in the United States or Puerto Rico may apply for the Best Buy @15 scholarships, awarded through the Best Buy Children's Foundation. For the 2011 to 2012 academic year, 1,200 students receive one-time $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, along with active involvement in community service or activities or work experience. This scholarship does not take financial need into consideration.
