The quantitative comparison questions on the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) are the easiest math questions on the GRE. These questions present you with a two column format. An equation or variable is in each column, and any common information will be in between the columns. All you have to do is decide which column has the greater value.
Instructions
1. Memorize the instructions for the GRE quantitative comparison question section prior to test day. This will save you time during the test since the instructions are verbose.
2. Compare, don't calculate. GRE quantitative comparison questions do not require exact answers. You do not need to know the specific values of the variable in the two columns, only which one is larger.
3. Double-check yourself if you believe that the two columns are equal. They must always be equal to make that answer choice correct. If there is a condition where the values are not equal then the correct answer is that the relationship cannot be determined.
4. Use variables instead of numbers when you can. Make sure the numbers you choose to replace variables satisfy the common information. Then solve for the values in both columns.
5. Take a practice test. Use sample GRE quantitative comparison questions and practice to become familiar with the question type.
