Nyc Medical Schools

New York City is one of the largest hotbeds of culture and diversity in the world. It makes sense, then, that the city would host a number of acclaimed and diverse schools for students looking to enter the field of professional medicine. Whether you are looking to earn your medical degree, graduate degree, or nursing training, New York City medical schools could be the place for you.

Weill Cornell Medical College

The Weill Cornell Medical College, located in the heart of New York City, was founded in 1898, and has been associated with the New York Presbyterian Hospital (its current name) since 1927. The college, along with its partner school, the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, is also affiliated with the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Rockefeller University, and the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The curriculum at Weill Cornell Medical College is split into 24 science and patient care departments, with a specific focus on the study, treatment, and prevention of disease. Students at Weill Cornell can study to earn their Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree and can also study at the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences for their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in biomedical research and education.

Mandl School

The Mandl School was originally opened in 1924 to train physician assistants to work in the medical world with more training than was generally being provided by other schools at that time. Unlike other schools, Mandl does not offer graduate work or medical degrees but rather focuses on the role of assistants in the medical field.

In regards to degrees, Mandl offers programs for dental assistants, medical assistants and surgical technologists. In the realm of continuing education, Mandl offers programs for nursing assistants and phlebotomy technicians (collecting blood samples). Students interested in nursing or support roles, instead of full medical doctoring, may be interested in this school above others.
