Distance learning degrees are one way to earn a college education.


Distance learning colleges offer students the chance to earn college degrees from anywhere in the world. Many of these schools have associate's and bachelor's degree options; some also offer master's and doctoral degree programs. When choosing a distance learning program, it is important to choose an accredited school. The schools listed here are not only fully accredited; they're the largest in the genre.


University of Phoenix


The University of Phoenix is the largest university in North America. It offers associate's, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees primarily online, as well as at local campuses in more than 200 locations throughout North America. University of Phoenix also offers distance learning programs internationally. The university offers programs in fields including nursing, criminal justice, education and business; all programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). Federal financial aid is available to qualified students. Currently, over 380,000 students are enrolled.


Central Texas College








Central Texas College is a distance learning college that offers certificate and two-year degree programs. The school, one of the largest two-year distance learning institutions, is popular among military members because it offers multimedia courses for those without web access. Central Texas College also has military-specific programs and is accredited. Over 70,000 students every year enroll in its distance learning programs.


University of Maryland University College


The University of Maryland University College is an excellent distance learning college with about 34,000 students. The college has undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In 2009, the college began offering an online master of arts degree in teaching. The accredited university offers nearly 30 undergraduate degree programs and qualifies for federal financial aid.








DeVry University


DeVry University, which has been operating for over 80 years to provide distance learning, currently enrolls an average of 130,000 students. The five colleges at the university offer associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees; the Keller Graduate School of Management offers several areas of concentration. Students have the option of taking classes in engineering, health sciences, business and media arts and technology. Students qualify for federal financial aid, and the school is internationally accredited.


Liberty University


Liberty is a Christian university that offers distance learning in a number of academic programs. All degree levels from associate's to doctoral are offered through the school. Fields of study offered at Liberty University Online include business, education, nursing and ministry. Liberty University is an accredited college and students can qualify for federal financial aid. The university currently enrolls over 46,000 students.
