Fast Track Lpn To Rn Programs

RNs are involved with a broad scope of patient care.

The expectations for an RN (registered nurse) are higher than they are for an LPN (licensed practical nurse). Although duties and responsibilities vary by state, LPNs are usually more involved with the task-oriented, day-to-day care of patients. RNs are involved with the broader scope of patient care, such as taking a patient's initial assessment and establishing a plan of care. Some schools offer a fast-track, or bridge, option for LPNs to train as RNs.

Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College

The Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Department of Nursing offers a way for LPNs to obtain fast-track training as RNs by acquiring advanced standing credit. This means being given credit for competency achieved through previous training or occupational experience. The program allows LPNs to keep their jobs as they train toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in nursing. There are a number of eligibility requirements, including current licensure as an LPN in Oklahoma and a copy of ACT (American College Testing) scores--a standardized test for high school achievement and college admissions. The fast-track program is approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. Oklahoma A&M is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Financial aid is available.

Florida Gateway College

The fast-track program at Florida Gateway College is designed with the understanding that there is knowledge LPNs and RNs have in common. Two entrance tests are required for an Associate in Science degree in nursing--the Registered Nurse Entrance Test and the Nursing Acceleration Challenge Exam. Florida Gateway College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The ASDN Program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing. It is a part-time program and can be completed in 12 months. Financial aid is available.
