Nurse Anesthetist Schools In Florida

The nurse anesthetist is usually the person administering anesthesia in an operating room.


A nurse anesthetist must hold an advanced degree in nursing with a concentration in anesthesia. In Florida, this degree is earned through a master's degree in nursing (MSN) program available at both private and public colleges. A prerequisite for all programs is that you hold a current license as a registered nurse or be eligible for licensure under Florida law.

Barry University also requires that applicants have a BSN or a bachelor's degree in a science as well as a year of hands-on nursing experience in a critical care unit. The applicant must also have current certifications in advanced life support (BLS, ACLS and PALS). Prospective students should have earned a B in a chemistry class within the last five years, preferably organic chemistry or biochemistry, and a science course that involves math, such as physics. This full-time program consists of 51 credit hours; students may opt to take some classes on a part-time schedule before starting the program to lighten their course load. Students may complete practica at a multitude of hospital facilities across Florida. Since this is a private school, tuition rates are higher.

The 92-credit nurse anesthetist program at UNF requires seven semesters of continuous study. It is a full-time program, consuming about 60 hours of a student's week. As of June 2010, the entire program at this public school costs approximately $30,000. Again, applicants must have a BSN and a minimum of one year of experience in acute care. Registered nurses who don't have a BSN may qualify for the MSN bridge program.

Schools For Cma To Lvn

Nursing provides a new career path for interested CMA's.








Certified medical assistants, known as CMAs, work to assist health practitioners with administrative, clerical and clinical duties. Licensed vocational nurses, or LVNs, work more closely with patients to provide care for sick and injured individuals. CMAs go to school for one to two years after high school to receive a certification degree in medical assisting or an associate's degree. LVNs also attend a vocational school for one to two years after high school to receive an associate's degree in nursing, after which they take an exam and begin working as a nurse. The transition from CMA to LVN requires that the student take most of the required LVN courses, since many of the CMA courses will not transfer.


On-Campus Schools








LVN schools are located all over the United States in junior colleges and vocational schools. Many of these institutions offer on-campus options for studying, which may be preferable if the student enjoys a more hands-on approach to learning. Junior colleges are slightly less available than vocational schools, but can also be less expensive options. It is necessary to find out whether there is a junior college or vocational school in the geographical area the student is interested in, and whether on-campus options are offered. Examples of schools that offer on-campus LVN study options include Riverside Community College in Riverside, California, Concorde Career Institute in Arlington, Texas, and American Career College in Los Angeles, California.


Online Schools


The LVN degree may also be completed online through many institutions. The online nursing degree includes online classes and weekend clinical training sessions at local hospitals. Courses are the same as on-campus curricula and include basic science courses such as anatomy and physiology, introduction to nursing, and the use of evidence-based practices. North Central Texas College offers an accredited program in nursing that is offered online as of fall 2009.


Other Requirements to Become a LVN


LVNs are required to complete a degree at an accredited school before they can take the National Council Licensure Examination, or NCLEX-PN, which is required for licensure. It is recommended that those going into nursing are caring, compassionate and stable individuals. Working in the medical field can be stressful and good coping skills are necessary for such times. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the average salary for LVNs as of May 2008 was $39,030. Many LVNs decide to go further into nursing to become registered nurses, or RNs, which increases responsibility and salary further.

Accessorize A Summerwhite Outfit

Instructions








1. Think of what look you would like to achieve. A white Bohemian inspired ensemble will have different accessory selections than an outfit of more fitted proporations.

Either way, your handbag should reflect your outfit choice. Your handbag should encompass all of the colors in your outfit, except white in most cases, for maximum eye appeal. Again, if your outfit is busy, try a more simple handbag.


9. Put on your favorite pair of brown or black sunglasses trimmed in gold and you’re ready to take the summer on in your white ensemble.

Write A Readmittance Letter To Nursing School

Getting back into nursing school allows you to have opportunities for your future.


Nursing school can be a harrowing adventure, and there are many reasons you might stop going at one time or another. If you have left nursing school and intend to go back, you may need to write a re-admittance letter so you can get back into school. There are several ways to do this, depending on the circumstances for which you left the program.


Instructions








1. Address your letter to the person or department that is responsible for your re-admittance into nursing school. If you aren't sure who this is, contact your school and ask first, so that you may address your letter to an actual person or department. This is more professional than saying "To whom it may concern."


2. Introduce yourself in the beginning of your letter, and mention when you were last enrolled. Refresh their memories as to why you had to leave; don't assume they will remember you or know your circumstances.








3. Explain in detail the reasons that made you leave nursing school. Then, for each reason, explain what you have done to change it, and why that reason will no longer keep you out of nursing school.


4. Write in detail about your hopes and dreams for nursing school, and why it is so important for you to get back in to it. If you did something that caused you to be expelled, such as flunking classes or cheating, acknowledge your errors and explain how you have changed.

The Wilson Reading System describes itself as a "research-based reading and writing program" and was developed by Barbara Wilson. This system is set up to teach students to read using decoding and encoding techniques beginning with phoneme segmentation, directly teaching the structure of the words with an organized and sequential system. The Wilson Reading System is very interactive between teacher and student and can be very effective in teaching students to read if properly implemented and supported. The system comes with a checklist to ensure proper implementation.


General Portion of Checklist


The general part of the checklist consists of making sure that the teacher has a written plan for each session, with lesson activities presented in their proper order. Other things that are looked for are teacher interaction with students, which should be considerable for the program to be used correctly. The teacher should be assisting students with lessons and providing specific and immediate feedback, using the question method supported by the system. Materials and student notebooks and folders should be well organized and readily available.








Multisensory Lesson Procedures


Teachers and supervisors should check to make sure that the use of card manipulation, tapping of sounds, tile manipulation, sky-writing and scooping story into phrases procedures are being used properly for word structure, spelling, letter formation and reading. This checklist should ideally be kept track of throughout the use of the reading system.


Mastery of Concepts

Write A College Autobiography

Write a College Autobiography


For a college autobiography, it is important to accurately chronicle the lessons learned, challenges faced and goals achieved you earned your degree. To do this, validate facts and dates mentioned. Compose an intriguing story by highlighting key events and experiences, particularly ones that may still be impacting you today. Keep in mind that the more you use your own voice and style throughout the book, the easier it will be for readers to connect to your story and feel that they are getting to know the real you.


Instructions








1. Create book chapters so events are revealed in chronological order. For example, in order for readers to understand how you became the person you are during college, begin the autobiography with a brief chapter on your parents, siblings and childhood. Include key accomplishments, challenges and transitions you experienced while at college. Make sure the events flow smoothly from one to another. Start and end every chapter with a "hook," or an experience that piques readers' curiosity and makes them want to know what happened next to you.








2. Research material. Search your college's alumni database for students who went to school with you. Contact the school's chancellor or academic affairs office if your college does not have an online alumni database. Register with online networking websites such as Linkedin, Facebook and MySpace to search for and locate classmates, professors and administrators you had contact with while at school. Interview and include contacts that significantly influenced your life in your book.

3. Gain necessary permissions. Create a permissions letter template to use copyrighted material (see Resources). Create a separate permissions letter template to mention other people in your autobiography. Include items on the persons permission template, such as your name and contact information, what you will write about the person, if you will include photographs of the person in your story, the title of the book and when you expect the book to be published. While you are not required to have people's permission to include them in your autobiography, you could save yourself a lot of legal headache by doing so. File copies of all copyright and persons permission template letters sent, denied and approved.


4. Create voice and style. Sit down and freestyle to find your own voice and style. Pen poems, short stories and journal entries to keep your freestyle exercises going until you find a comfortable voice and style. Avoid writing in an academic tone. Write as though you are telling your story to a friend you haven't seen in a long time. Let your personality come across on each page. Tape record your story first if you find it hard to put the experiences on paper. Then go back and transcribe the tape.


5. Hire an editor to review the manuscript. Visit directories such as Editors Association of Canada, Writer's Market, Poets & Writers and Literary Market Place to locate editors. You may be required to create a login and password to search the directories. Compare editorial fees. Provide the editor with manuscript length and expected print date.

Savings Account Affect Financial Aid

Many parents and teens worry about saving enough money to pay for college. Interestingly, the more money a family saves, the less financial aid they will receive. This is because the formulas used to determine aid eligibility account for the money that the family, and especially the student, has saved.








Financial Aid Formulas








Savings accounts affect financial aid because they are part of the information families enter on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Both the student and the parents, if the student is dependent, enter all of their savings accounts and assets into the form. The government uses the amount in these accounts as part of the calculation of the Expected Family Contribution, which is an estimation of how much the family should be able to afford for college each year. Many colleges meet all of the student's financial need, which is the difference between the cost of attendance and the EFC. Therefore, the lower the EFC, the more aid a student is eligible to receive.


Student Savings


A student is expected to contribute approximately 20 percent of his savings and assets for college costs each year. Therefore, if a student has saved $4,000 before starting college, the EFC formula will expect the student to contribute $800 of that toward the first year of college.


Parent Savings


The parents are only expected to contribute 5.64 percent of their savings and assets toward the child's education each year. Therefore, if they report $50,000 in savings, $2,820 of this is expected to go toward college costs that year. However, if they have multiple children in school, this amount is divided between the children in the calculations.


Strategies


Because students must contribute more of their savings than parents, the parents should keep assets in their name rather than giving them to the student. If a student does have some savings, he should maximize financial aid in future academic years by using this saved money to pay for tuition before dipping into the parents' savings account. Having less savings in future years will lower the EFC and increase financial aid. Lastly, if relatives want to give money to support the student's education, it affects financial aid less if they give it to the parents or wait until the student has graduated and give it to pay off loans.

Medicaid Eye Exams & Coverage

Medicaid coverage for eye exams depends on several factors.


In the U.S., Medicaid programs help cover the medical needs of certain low-income people. Vision care, such as eye exams and other coverage, may be covered by Medicaid under certain conditions. Coverage and programs vary based on age, income, state of residence and other considerations.


Children








Children up to age 21 are covered under the Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment (EPSDT) program, which is mandated for all individual state Medicaid programs via the federal government's Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989. Under the law, each state must provide periodic vision exams, diagnoses and treatments as deemed medically necessary. States are required to create "reasonable standards" regarding how often exams must be performed, in consultation with recognized child health care medical organizations.


Adults


Since Medicaid programs are administered individually by each state, not all state programs offer adult eye exams and vision coverage. Some do, with programs that offer similar coverage to the EPSDT program for children under 21. Qualifications


While Medicaid is a program meant to cover low-income people who cannot afford health insurance and do not have it provided by an employer, not all low-income people are covered. Assets, resources and excessive medical expenses are evaluated when you apply for Medicaid coverage. Additionally, your state has specific poverty guidelines that are considered when you apply. Considerations


If an eye exam administered through your Medicaid coverage determines that eyeglasses or other corrective vision measures are necessary, those are also covered by the federal EPSDT program if you are under 21 years of age. As with adult vision coverage, state statutes determine what is covered for adults. Glaucoma treatments, as deemed medically necessary, may also be covered.

Cancel Student Loans That Haven'T Been Disbursed

Cancel a student loan disbursement on time to save penalty fees.


College students have the right to cancel all or part of a federal student loan prior to or after the money has been disbursed to the university. However, if you have a private student loan with a bank once the agreement is signed, most banks consider it your obligation to repay. Review the terms of your contract for cancellation deadline. The lender usually disburses the loan to the college at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. First, the loan will be applied for the payment of tuition, room and board and fees. If there is money left over the college will add a credit to your account or pay you directly with a check or deposit the funds in your bank account.








Instructions








1. Verify whether or not you have received written notification from your college of when the loan money will be credited to your account. The college will also send notification to students with a private student loan. This usually can be done by checking online at the email address that was given to you by the college (ex. janedoe@college.edu.com) or by logging onto your college's financial aid office website.


2. Compose a letter to your college financial aid office informing them that you are canceling the full amount or a portion of the loan. Be sure to include your full name, student ID number and the type of loan (for example, direct loan or Stafford loan) and the amount of the loan. Call your bank or lender for cancellation procedures and review your contract if you have a private student loan.


3. Submit a written request to cancel the loan to your financial aid office. The request to cancel the loan must be made within 14 days of the date your school sends you notice that the loan will be applied to your account or by the first day of the payment.


4. Contact the college's student accounts office and confirm that all or a portion of the loan was returned to the lender. Check the account balance.


5. Verify with lender. You can contact the U.S. Department of Education's Direct Loan department through their website, or call 800-848-0979. Review your application and promissory note. The lender contact information should be listed on your application. Call them with additional questions.

Difference In Teaching Techniques In Science Class

Students can better understand scientific concepts by observing them directly.


An effective science education requires that teachers provide students both with the theoretical framework for scientific inquiry and also an environment in which students can perform experiments to locate answers to questions. Therefore, science classrooms often draw on a broad range of approaches that are not as often used in other subjects.


Vocabulary


Teachers must give students science vocabulary so that they can talk about science-related topics. Teachers can provide the definitions of the words; use the words in scientific contexts so that students understand how the words are typically used; and ask the students to write essays in which they incorporate the words into the paper. The vocabulary words may be a part of the student's assessment, especially if the state standards dictate that the student understand the vocabulary. However, students will also need to know the vocabulary to engage in class discussions.


Essays


Essays give students an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of scientific concepts in their own words. Also, essays allow students to explore topics that they find interesting, allowing them to maintain an interest in science as a whole. Students must process science information before they can talk about the information in their own words.








Science Experiments


Science experiments allow students to understand concepts by actually applying them to real-life experiences. Science experiments allow students to learn skills such as teamwork and improvisation. Students can carry out their own experiments in science projects, which allows them to pursue their own interests. As the students present their information to the class, they teach their fellow students about various topics while reinforcing their own understanding. Also, students can practice presentation skills when showing projects to other students. In project-based science classes, the teacher not only serves the role of instructor and evaluator, but also acts as a mentor and facilitator, guiding students through their own discoveries.


Teaching Concepts


Teachers must explain scientific concepts to students. One of the foundational concepts in science is the scientific method. Every other topic that students learn is based on this method of inquiry. Teachers can explain these concepts orally or through the textbook and worksheets, but some students need visuals to help them understand concepts. Projectors can allow teachers to enlarge graphics depicting scientific processes, and computer simulations can provide motion. For example, a simulation depicting the precipitation cycle can show water evaporating, condensing and precipitating. Teachers must not only teach students isolated scientific concepts, such as the second law of thermodynamics, but also help students understand the overall scientific context.


Questions and Assumptions








Science teachers help students get used to asking questions and avoiding assumptions. Individuals sometimes make assumptions regarding the natural world. Scientists attempt to identify these assumptions and conduct experiments that can either verify or disprove the assumptions. Teachers must question the assumptions of their students and encourage the students to ask questions.

Eat Well Spend Less At College

College provides many opportunities for food bargains for those willing and eager to search them out. Follow these steps and you can let your stomach do the talking.


Instructions


1. Study your college food plan options and know their weaknesses. Are you on a point system per meal or item eaten, or do you pay a flat rate per quarter or semester?


2. Know whether you are a bulk eater or someone who just snacks a lot. Choose the plan that best fits your eating habits.


3. Invite yourself to a friend's dorm or cafeteria. Often colleges don't care where you eat and have trouble tracking how much you eat.


4. Eat seconds whenever possible, or box up food to take with you for later.


5. Assume that if doors are unlocked and food is on display, it is meant for your liberal consumption.


6. Visit friends in fraternities and sororities for meals.


7. Read the school papers and other local rags for restaurant deals and coupons.


8. Shop at the discount stores where you can buy in bulk.


9. Cook at home if you have the option.


10. Work in food service for extra cash and free meals, either at a campus facility or in the restaurant industry.

Care For A Trombone Slide

Cleaning and lubricating a trombone slide is a simple process. Cleaning a trombone slide improves the flow of air and the tuning of the instrument. It also helps extend the life of the instrument. Follow these steps for proper cleaning once every three to six months.


Instructions


1. Remove dirt and grime on both the inner and outer slides. Wrap cheese cloth around the cleaning rod from bottom to top. Pour a small amount of denatured alcohol on the cloth and swab the inside of each slide.








2. Pour alcohol on a terry cloth towel and wipe the outside of the inner slide to remove all dirt and grease.








3. Fill a bathtub with warm water to cover the inner and outer slides only and use a liberal amount of liquid dish soap.


4. Place the inner and outer slides in tub and let them stand for 15 minutes. Rinse the slides thoroughly and hang them top down to air dry for 30 minutes. Repeat the first two steps to ensure that all dirt and grime is gone.


5. Lubricate the slides by applying a generous amount of Slide "O" Mix to both sides of inner slide tubing and spray water on inner slides. Place the outer slide(or "sock") back on inner slide and work slide until all lubricant is properly worked into both slides.

Inequalities are similar to equations, you have to solve for a variable (X, Y, Z , A, B, etc...), the main difference is that with an equation you are solving for only one value (X=3, Z=4, A=-9, etc) with an inequality you are solving for a range of numbers, that means that you variable can be a number greater than, less than, greater or equal than to, less or equal than to...


For Example: If X > 3 (X is greater than 3) , X can be any value from 3.1, 3.2, 5, 7, 900, 1000 and so on.

Pass The Cma Exam

The Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) is a membership organization advocating honest business practices in management accounting and finance. It offers a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification for students and professionals. The CMA exam is a two-part test that measures a candidate's knowledge in financial management and accounting. To take the test, you must first become a member of the IMA, pay an entrance fee and file the registration form for the exam. Instructions








1. Visit the IMA website. Click "Resources" under the "CMA Certification" heading. Click "CMA brochure" to download a PDF document that details what is covered on the test. Part one covers financial planning, performance and control, and part two covers financial decision-making. Each part of the exam is four hours and has 100 multiple-choice questions and two 30-minute essays. You can take the exam in any order you choose. Scores from the essay section are added to scores from the multiple-choice section for a total weighted score that determines whether you pass or fail.


2. Review the major knowledge areas required for each part of the test. For part one, you must know about planning, budgeting and forecasting, performance measurement, professional ethics, cost management and internal controls. For part two, you must be familiar with different kinds of investment decisions, decision analysis and risk management, corporate finance, financial statement analysis and professional ethics.


3. Download a suggested reading list from the IMA website. This is a PDF document that provides a list of about a dozen books that will help you study for the two-part exam. The list includes the title of the books, the authors and the year of publication. You can also buy a CMA study guide that includes sample questions, test tips and a study plan.


4. Take a practice test to gauge the subject areas in which you are proficient and the areas that require more studying. Focus your studies on your weaker subject areas and use the study guide and the suggested reading list to help shore up your knowledge. Work the practice problems and take the sample exams until you have a firm grasp of the areas in which you are weak. Once you score consistently in a high percentage, you are ready to take and pass the CMA exam.








5. Consider enrolling in CMA self-study preparation courses, many of which are available as online tutorials that feature practice problems, flashcards, interactive graphs and charts and certified instructors who you can contact to ask questions. Check the IMA website for a list of these courses.

Calculate Pi By Throwing Frozen Food

If you've ever wanted an excuse to throw food in the name of math, here's your chance. Calculating pi by throwing frozen food can be a fun way to make a mess and learn something at the same time.


Instructions








1. Select a frozen food to throw. Ideally, the food should be long and skinny. Hot dogs are ideal choices. Measure the frank's length; they should be at least 6-inches long and they should all be approximately the same length.


2. Decide where you want to conduct your food-throwing experiment. You will need at least 6 to 10 feet of clear space in front of you. Clear any objects that might stop your hot dogs in mid-flight.


3. Lay strips of masking tape down on the floor perpendicular to the direction in which you will be throwing. Lay the pieces of tape parallel with each other and as far apart as the franks are long. Lay down 6 to 10 pieces of tape.


4. Get out a piece of paper and make two columns. Write the words "Tosses" and "Crosses" at the top of the columns.


5. Throw your hot dogs, one by one. Put one tally under the "Tosses" column for every throw, and put a tally under the "Crosses" column for every frank that lands across a piece of tape. Make 100 to 200 total throws.








6. Calculate the results. Multiply the number of tosses by two and divide that number by the number of crosses. The result will be an approximation of pi.

Solve A Problem







Not everyone is naturally gifted with quick thinking problem solving tactics. Some of us have to muddle through until we finally come up with the solution. Make your goal a little easier by using some tried and tested methods to save time and brain power.


Instructions


1. Define what the problem actually is. This isn't necessary when a physics question asks for "a" or "b," but for problems based more in arts or philosophy the "problem" itself is not always clear. Read the descriptions carefully and decide exactly what the problem is before you begin to try to solve it.








2. Break down the problem into smaller more manageable sections. A huge problem by itself may seem overwhelming and impossible. By breaking it down into smaller sections, you can tackle each one in a methodical way.


3. Look at the potential causes for the problem. Often the solution is to take away the cause, so go back to the beginning of the problem and see if there is any way to get rid of the cause.


4. Develop solutions by looking at what other people have done before you and brainstorming your own ideas. Look for tried and tested formulas to your problem. Chances are you aren't the first person to encounter this, so see whether there are any already established solutions.


5. Use the tools and people that you have around you. Complex mathematical equations are easier to solve with a calculator and essay plans are available on the Internet. Use technology to make shortcuts and pick other peoples' brains to get fresh perspectives on your problem.


6. Check through your original facts and assumptions. If you still can't find a solution, it may be because your initial data wasn't correct. Double check your facts and figures and look for flaws in your hypothesis. You may spot something you missed the first time that lets everything else fall into place.

Solve A Pemdas (Order Of Operations) Problem







Solve a PEMDAS (Order of Operations) Problem


Many of my students have tremendous difficulty with PEMDAS (Order of Operations) problems, but there is no reason for this. Just follow the simple steps and tips below, and you will get them all correct.


Instructions


1. First do anything that you see in parentheses. Ignore anything else that you see. If you have nested brackets, such as this pattern: [()], then work you way from the inner set to the outer, one step at a time.








2. Next, simplify exponents. Remember that an exponent tells you how many times to multiply the number times itself.


3. Next, do multiplication and division left to right. That right there is the key. You must do the division first, if it comes to the left of the multiplication. However, this step is always fully completed before the next one. For example, in the problem 4+15/5*2, we first do the division to get 3. Then we multiply 3 times 2 to get 6. Only then do we add 4 to get 10 (see below).


4. Finally, do addition and subtraction left to right. Again, the subtraction could come first, if it is to the left of the addition.

Get Noticed By A College Track Team

The best way to get noticed by a college track team is to give notice. Let college coaches, recruiters and athletes know that you are applying to college soon and would like to join up. Unlike many sports, most college track teams offer spots to walk-ons. Unfortunately, a track team is less likely to offer anyone a scholarship--according to NCAA rules, Division 1 teams can only offer 18 scholarships for women and 12.6 scholarships for men. And even with these scholarships, they are generally spread among many athletes. The bottom line is if you like to run track and have a good academic record, you can join a college team.








Instructions


1. Talk to your high school coach. He will know some college recruiters and if you have potential he will sing your praises to them. A coach on your side will also point you in the right direction; which colleges you should contact, how you should train to be ready for a college team and what events you can train for to make you even more competitive.








2. Go online to the college's athletic website. Almost every college has a form on its website to contact the track coach. These can be as simple as filling out your name, address and personal records in your events.


3. Improve your performances. The best runners will always be recognized and receive scholarships. If this means cross-training in the fall and summer, then do it. If it means giving up basketball to focus full-time on running, then that is an important step. Those who receive scholarships are not simply recruited on the basis of their times, but also their potential. If you are a hard worker, coaches will see that and be more likely to recruit you.


4. Attend camps in the summer. Many colleges offer camps where you can meet the coaches and team and train with them. Nike offers several running camps that are good places to run and be seen. Many are as short as a week but are nevertheless quite demanding.


5. Go to the most important track meets. The Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a meeting-ground each spring for the best track athletes. Make it a point to attend a local or national track meet where recruiters will be in attendance.


6. Visit the colleges you are most interested in attended. College "official visits" are a great way to get to know the college and get the college coach to know you. You can meet the coach, see the team and meet some of the athletes. This is a good way to know if you are compatible with the program and for the coach to know if he is compatible with you.

Write A Successful Financial Aid Appeal Letter

Financial aid officers can explain why your aid was reduced.


Because of the high cost of higher education, most students seek some form of financial aid through their academic facility. Financial aid offices sometimes reduce your financial aid if they feel you are not performing well enough to keep qualifying, or if you receive alternative funding. You may challenge these reductions if necessary through a financial aid appeal letter.


Instructions


1. Call the financial aid office at your academic facility. Ask them for the name of the person to whom they should send a financial appeal letter; some offices have a specific person who handles these issues.


2. Write the name of your academic institution, left justified. Below this, on separate lines, write the title for the financial aid office and the contact information for the facility, including the phone number.


3. Write "DATE:" followed by the date on which you're writing the letter. On a separate line, write "RE: Financial Aid Appeal." Skip two lines between the school's contact information and each of these data lines.


4. Skip two lines and write your formal salutation, followed by a colon. Use the name you acquired in Step 1 to address the letter.


5. Tell the recipient you are writing to appeal your previous financial aid award decision. Provide some basic background regarding yourself and the decision in the first paragraph, such as the date the award decision was rendered and when you planned to attend classes. If you have a student identification or account number with the financial aid office, indicate it.


6. State why you must appeal the financial aid decision in a separate paragraph. Be as specific as possible. For example, say you need more money due to unexpected medical expenses or a divorce, not "extenuating circumstances," which could be anything. If you are appealing because you lack sufficient funds, provide specific dollar figures supporting your assertion that your income has changed. If you are appealing due to poor academic performance, list the reasons why your performance faltered. Then indicate what you have done to remedy each of those issues.


7. Tell the recipient how a lack of change in your financial aid award will impact you in a separate paragraph. For instance, state that without more aid, you won't be able to take all the classes you need for your major, or that you will have to put your education on hold.








8. Close the letter by thanking the recipient for their time and consideration. Invite them to contact you.








9. Skip two lines and write your closing phrase---for example, "Thanking you for your consideration" or "Sincerely"---followed by a comma. Skip another two to four lines and type your full name.

If you are looking into your options for the future, you might be wondering about the best educational path to pursue to land the job you want. Consider whether a diploma will suffice for your future career, or whether you might receive more benefits and job flexibility from an associate degree.


Length of Time


A high school diploma generally takes four years to earn. Once you graduate from high school, you earn your diploma; this document says that you have completed the required course work and testing and have successfully finished your high school career.


An associate degree generally takes two years to complete. This is shorter than the length of time it takes to graduate from high school, but you will have to earn your diploma before you can get your associate degree; so, essentially, the difference in time between the two options is four years to six.

Students can also get scholarships and grants for associate degrees just as they can for four-year degrees. Variety


A high school diploma generally only comes in one variety per state; sometimes, there are options for earning an honors diploma instead of a traditional one, but in either case a high school diploma is fairly general. One other option for some high school students is to earn a diploma from a technical or vocational school; this can provide a high school education in combination with job training and even certificate programs for careers in cosmetology, child care, mechanics or cooking.


An associate degree has more variety than a traditional high school diploma, including liberal arts, applied science and occupational degree programs. Each one comes with a set of job skills and experiences that can lead you into a future career.

Sometimes, a higher degree (meaning after high school) is called a diploma, as in the case of nursing. It is likely that a commercial student loan provider will turn you down under these conditions. However, if you have a genuine financial need and do not have a drug conviction while previously receiving federal student aid, there is a very good chance you can get a federal student loan even if you have a bankruptcy or foreclosure on your credit history.








Instructions


1. Understand how federal student loans work. Unlike commercial lenders, the Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid does not check an applicant's credit history or credit score. Provided you meet the eligibility requirements you can get a federal student loan no matter how bad your credit is and you will not need a co-signer.


2. Arrange to start repaying any federal student loans on which you may have defaulted. The same applies to grant money you may have received in error and must repay. You cannot receive federal student loans with either a defaulted student loan or liability for grant money on your record. However, this restriction can be waived if you arrange to start making payments.








3. Register for Selective Service before your 26th birthday if you are male. If you are already 26 or older and did not register, you cannot receive federal student aid unless you can prove you were not required to register or that you did not knowingly and willfully fail to register.


4. File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA may be completed online at fafsa.ed.gov (see Resources below). You will need last year's tax return or W-2 forms, your Social Security number and personal records of your assets. These include your most recent bank statements and a list of investments and assets. If you are 24 years of age or less you also need the same information from your parents.


5. Select the types of financial aid you are willing to accept. Federal student aid includes both subsidized and unsubsidized student loans. You do not have to start repaying either type of loan until six months after you leave school. With a subsidized loan, the federal government pays the interest while you are in school. You are charged interest on unsubsidized loans. You may pay this as you go or have the interest added to the principal of the loan. Don't neglect to apply for any federal grants you may be eligible for. Normally you do not have to repay grant money.


6. Indicate on the FAFSA which school or schools you want your information sent after your application is processed. Make sure you do this early. You can file a FAFSA until June 30 of the current award ear, for example, June 30, 2011 for the 2010/2011 award year. However, many schools have earlier deadlines.


7. Contact the financial aid office of your school. Ask the office to consider you for all federal programs in which the school participates. You should also ask to be considered for any other aid such as scholarships or grants for which the school uses the FAFSA to determine eligibility. Some schools will do these things automatically, but not always, so remember to ask.

The medical field is wide open and growing. Many economists predict the health care sector will continue to expand as the population grows and we understand treat and cure more illnesses. Education


The educational requirements for medical field jobs vary. On the low end, a high school diploma is required for almost all jobs, such as food service personnel and janitor. At the next level are nursing and medical assistants, who go through training programs lasting less than a year. Technicians usually have vocational degrees while nurses, nutritionists and other clinical personnel have college degrees. Doctors are the highest end of the educational scale, and they often have 10 or more years of post secondary education.








On-the-Job Training


All jobs in the medical field require on-the-job training. In many cases, this training, called clinical training, takes place during the time the medical worker is in school. This medical training introduces the worker to various clinical settings, usually hospitals, and helps guide the person through using her training to work with patients. Much of the personal patient care training is done during this time.


Opportunities


Health care is the only field not to be harmed by the economic crash of 2008. Instead because of an aging population, the medical field is growing. New career options are opening up frequently. Polysomnography, or the study of sleep, is one growing area of the medical profession. Other non-traditional medical careers, such as health educators, also are growing. Alternative therapists trained in such modalities as massage therapy and acupressure also are gaining acceptance.


Salaries


The pay for medical field jobs ranges depending on the position and its requirements. Nursing assistants are paid hourly usually beginning just above minimum wage while nurses can make anywhere from $11 to $50 an hour, as of 2009, depending on the types of patients they have and their training. Doctors’ salaries go well into the six-figure range, but not until after years of training.


Considerations


People considering a medical field career should think about how much they enjoy working with patients. All personnel in the medical field, from records clerks to counselors, all deal with patients at some point. Workers in the medical field also need some flexibility as patient needs come first and not based on a time clock.

A college apartment is a great opportunity to have a little more privacy and idependence. They're usually much nicer than the dorm rooms while at the same time costing less than an off-campus apartment. Some are furnished while others are not. Either way, there are some essentials that everyone should keep in mind. Follow these tips to make sure you get what you need without breaking the bank.








Instructions


1. Plan your budget before you begin shopping. Decide how much you can spend so you'll know what you want to spend extra money on, and which items can be the cheapest essentials. Also take an inventory of what you already own and see what you can take with you; that way you don't have to buy it again.








2. Start with your bedroom. If your apartment in unfurnished you'll need a bed and mattress, desk and chair. Once you have the furniture, you'll want a fitted sheet, blanket or comforter and pillows for your bed. A desk lamp is a wise purchase if the lightning in your room is dim. Consider picking up a dresser if you don't have a closet.


3. Furnish your bathroom with a trash can and trash bags, soap dish, toothbrush holder and any towels and toiletries you need. A bath mat is good for bathrooms with dirty floors. Some apartments also require you to buy your own shower curtain and shower curtain rings. These can be purchased for about a dollar a pack if you get the cheap kind.


4. Buy for your kitchen next. You'll want one good pot, a skillet or pan, silverware, bowls, plates and several cups. Groceries can wait until you've had a chance to see how often you will actually eat in your apartment. Once you've talked to your roommates, decide if you want to split the cost of a toaster and microwave. A trash can and some towels are also nice to have but not necessary right away.


5. Finally, buy for your living room once you have all the essentials. Typically you'll want a couch or chairs, a TV plus stand and a lamp if the lighting is bad. You can add decorations to this room as well as your bedroom, but since you don't have to have them, wait until you have a little more spending money for it. Start out with these basics and not only will you save money, but you'll be able to buy more things as time goes by.

Prepare to Run for Political Office


Tired of the same meaningless sound bytes from candidates year after year? Is there a local issue that has you hopping mad? Think you can do a better job than the people who represent you? Don't just sit there - help fix the problem by running for office.


Instructions








1. Take a personal inventory. Do you have the time, family support, name recognition, drive to win and public speaking skills necessary to run a good campaign?


2. Get involved in your community, and join both civic (Rotary and Kiwanis) and political (local Democrat or Republican club) organizations.


3. Increase your credibility by learning more about the issues that concern you.








4. Volunteer for causes like the PTA if your passion is education, or the neighborhood watch if you're interested in fighting crime.


5. Build grassroots support. Make a list of your fellow club members, family, friends and colleagues you think will support you. The longer the list, the stronger your campaign will be.


6. Research the office you want to hold. Who will vote in the election, what will you do as an elected official, and what legal obligations do you have to meet? Your local Board of Elections can help you with demographics and legal questions; attending meetings of the office you want to hold will familiarize you with the duties.


7. Share with your family all the information you've gathered, and decide if running for office is right for you.
